What are the Top Construction Markets for Life Science Real Estate?

March 17, 2023 by Mike Hargrave Topics: Construction/Development, Industry News, Real Estate Financing/Capital Markets

Did you know Revistalab tracks life science real estate (LSRE) construction across the country?  RevistaLab covers lab construction projects, including conversions expansions and new properties across the US that are in planning, in progress as well as completed.

When looking at the markets with the greatest volume of LSRE construction the Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH CBSA is the clear leader.  Boston, as of 4Q22, had 20.6 million SF in progress.  The pipeline has been buoyed by 13.1 MSF of LSRE construction starts in 2022.  San Francisco and San Diego have also been targeted for development with 10.8 MSF and 7.5MSF in Progress, respectively.  In fact, each of the top 8 markets have TTM construction start levels that currently exceed TTM completion levels.  This is a metric to watch, and rest assured RevistaLab will be here to monitor it.
